Updates from the Tinyverse - 21st September 2021
Another week, and some amazing progress from the team on several fronts. A lot of our focus this week was launching and growing our community, and it was amazing!
Community
Our team had a blast with Hack The North hackers this weekend, sponsoring the biggest hackathon in Canada! Not only did they bring their A-Game to our hacking party on Discord, they have been conducive to all the efforts we have put into our open source tool, Rune.
The talented hackers from Hack The North provided us visibility into the pain points of Rune and how we will build out our enterprise offerings for our future users.
Drumroll, please! We officially have 163 new users on our dev website! Developers are reading our documentation about our beloved, Rune! Getting real time feedback is an AMAZING feat for the team and we couldn’t have done this without the hackers at Hack The North. Thank you for bringing your tenacity, your determination, and hard work to the hackathon! Our team felt your passion oozing through the virtual screens and the mutual love for hacking confirmed why our team do what we do. We are hackers at the core and to be met with the same energy from developers at Hack The North was just *chef’s kiss.* Safe to say, this was one memorable weekend for our team because we pride ourselves in solving hard innovative problems and to see young minds hacking on the future makes our developers’ heart swell *cue the heart eye emojis.*
We are extremely thrilled to have you a part of our community! We couldn’t be more excited for the amazing futures you all have ahead of you! On that note, we have more exciting details to come as our team plan on dedicating next week’s post to Hack The North. Keep your eyes alert and guard your inboxes - this is one post you do not want to miss! And if you are not subscribed to Tinyverse, no hard feelings! We have attached the button down below for your convenience ;)
Oh and yeah, Pete freakin’ Warden followed us on Twitter. Yeah, no biggie, no pressure. He’s just the technical lead of the TensorFlow Micro team at Google. Ya, no big deal at all :D
Rune Core
The hackers from Hack the North have been doing an excellent job of test-driving Rune. We’ve already found few teething issues and bugs. Really good products are built iteratively, by getting real world feedback from users. We are stoked to get this from the community so early on that we can shape the future of Rune to meet the needs of our users (developers).
We are all reviewing the feedback and issues to make Rune even easier and fun to hack with! The key phrase is “developer experience” (DX)! More on this next week!
This release is also the first one which uses librunecoral for TensorFlow Lite inference instead of the tflite crate. Rune is now one step closer to running everywhere!
Runic Mobile and Browser PWA
We are making good progress on the new Mobile app and Web/PWA version. We are implementing extended functionalities like logging on top of the new layout. We are also looking into porting the Flutter app to tiny devices like Coral and Raspberry Pi.
Making Embedded Machine Learning on devices easy for any type of developer is our goal.
The Team
We have added a blockchain engineer to our team! Welcome, Jason!
Amin has joined our team full time as our designer on all products we are building. We were able to show you a glimpse on the Runic mobile and web app with glassmorphic designs in an earlier post - this was his key work.
Our full stack engineer has started as of Sept 16th (on his birthday!). Happy Belated Birthday, Anugrah!
